March 22, 2004  Sungard Business Systems

Sungard Business Systems, doing business as Employee Benefit Systems, will pay $425,000 to settle a qui tam action filed by one of its former employees, Frank Roemer. The case concerned a contract under which Sungard was to deliver an automated record-keeping system to the Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board. The allegations in the case were that Sungard violated The False Claims Act, and mislead the government, by overstating the labor hours worked on the project by both the company’s employees and independent contractors during portions of late-2001 and early-2002.

As part of the settlement, Mr. Roemer will receive $85,000 for having filed the qui tam case.
