June 18, 2002  Brotman Medical Center

Brotman Medical Center has agreed to pay nearly $10 Million Dollars to settle claims asserted in a qui tam action filed by William Noll, a former controller at Brotman.

The allegations of the case were that Brotman improperly charged Medicare for providing services to patients in beds, which had been specifically licensed for the purpose of providing rehabilitation services, when the beds provided by Brotman were not licensed for rehabilitation purposes, and while Brotman knew that Medicare reimburses medical providers at higher rates for use of the licensed beds.

As part of the settlement, Mr. Noll will receive nearly $2 Million Dollars for having filed the qui tam case.
