November 20, 1995  SL Auburn Inc.

SL Auburn Inc. of Auburn New York has agreed to pay $600,000 to settle claims asserted in a qui tam case filed by a former employee, Edward J. Dyman. The allegations of the case were that Auburn manufactured defective and substandard tank and aircraft engine igniters under contracts with the Department of Defense. It was also asserted that Auburn improperly used a kerosene-graphite slurry on igniters which failed required electrical tests to artificially increase the conductivity of the igniters to make sure they passed the tests. Auburn officials also allegedly retrieved scrapped igniters and shipped them to the Defense Department to meet inventory shortfalls.

As part of the settlement, Mr. Dyman will receive $144,000 for having filed the qui tam case.
