December 16, 2002  $1.2 Billion Recovered in 2002

The United States Justice Department has announced that in 2002, over $1.2 Billion Dollars was recovered under the False Claims Act, bringing the total monies recovered under the Act since 1986 to $10 Billion Dollars.

In 2002 persons who filed qui tam actions received over $160 Million Dollars in rewards under the Act.

Among the largest recoveries in 2002 were:

$568 Million Dollars from TAP Pharmaceuticals

$87.3 Million Dollars from PacifiCare Health Systems

$76 Million Dollars from General American Life Insurance Company

$73.3 Million Dollars from The State of California and The County of Los Angeles

$29 Million Dollars from Lifemark Hospitals of Florida

$21.5 Million Dollars from Union Oil Company of California
